General Questions

ME Ally is a health tracking app designed specifically for people with ME/CFS, Long COVID, and related chronic illnesses. It helps you track daily symptoms, review patterns, and understand how your logged activity relates to your health entries.

ME Ally requires iOS 18 or later. It works on any iPhone that supports iOS 18 or newer.

Yes. Your data is stored locally on your device by default. iCloud Sync is optional and off by default—you can enable it during setup or in Settings. We never access, sell, or share your health data. There are no third-party analytics or advertising in the app.

The free version includes all core tracking features, the 7-day dashboard, and full analytics. Premium adds extended timeframes for trends, PDF health reports for healthcare providers, and JSON data export/import. Premium is a one-time $4.99 purchase – no subscription.

Using the App

Your energy envelope is an estimate of activity levels that may be associated with crashes or post-exertional malaise (PEM) based on the data you enter. ME Ally looks at your logged activity and health levels around crash episodes to surface patterns for your own review.

Basic comparisons appear after just a few entries. We provide some preliminary insights based on the levels you selected for your baseline health and activity, but the Energy Envelope calculations require at least 2 crash episodes.

The health and activity scales are adapted from the Bell CFIDS Disability Scale, a functional severity measure that has been used in ME/CFS research. The original scale lumped health and activity together so we adapted it to separate these dimensions for more precise tracking. We also change the scale from 0-100 to 0-10 for simplicity. Although not exact, our scale multiplied by 10 roughly maps to the Bell scale - so our 5 corresponds to a 50 on the Bell scale.

Technical

If you encounter a bug in the app go to the Settings Menu → Help & Support → Report a Bug.

If you had iCloud Sync enabled, sign into the same iCloud account on your new device and make sure iCloud Sync is enabled in ME Ally Settings. When you open ME Ally, choose "No, restore my data" on the welcome screen and your data will sync within a few minutes. If you did not use iCloud Sync, you can restore from a JSON backup via Settings → Import Data (Premium feature).

You can turn iCloud Sync on or off directly in ME Ally: go to Settings → iCloud Sync. Changes take effect on next launch.

Turning off iCloud Sync stops future syncing but does not delete any existing copy of your data from iCloud. To manage or remove that data, go to iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → ME Ally.

Go to Settings → Export Data (Premium feature). This creates a JSON backup file you can save anywhere.

Yes! Premium users can generate a PDF Health Report (Settings → Generate Health Report) with summary statistics, trend charts, and symptom information formatted for healthcare providers.
